Lots of motorist may be risking their licences without even knowing as they are unaware of the laws regarding towing caravans, trailers and horse boxes. If you are one of them, you may ore be running the risk of being fined or even disqualified from driving unless you have the correct category of driving licence.
It is quite complicated to work out what you can and cannot drive on your licence, but fundamentally, if you passed your driving test after 1 January 1997 and have an ordinary Category B (car) licence, you almost certainly can’t legally tow large trailers, mobile caravans or horse boxes unless you pass the car plus trailer test (Category B + E). This also applies if you have regained your licence after 1st January 1997 after being disqualified from driving as you will have lost any previous entitlement. So you will have to gain a Category B+E licence before you can legally tow again.
At DRM driver training, we offer expert Category B+E training to allow you to gain your licence if you need one for either towing a trailer, caravan or horse box. If you are not sure if you need a Category B+E licence, simply give us a call and we’ll let you know.
